Skincare can be overwhelming af. First we think we’re doing good because we finally added an eye cream to our routine, next we’re reading that we should be doing 10 step routines twice a day or we’re going to look like we’re 80 in 5 years? I can barely keep up. Thankfully you have me to do the research for you and help cut through all the bs out there.

Of course, skincare routines are going to be slightly different for everybody depending on your specific skincare concerns. But I think I can speak for most people when I say we all want skin that makes us look like we’re glowing from within, right?

So what products do you need to use to get healthy, glowy, youthful skin?

  1. Vitamin A
  2. Vitamin C
  3. Moisturizer
  4. Serum

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is crucial for the health of your skin for MANY reasons. But when it comes to glowy-looking skin, the most important reason is that Vitamin A increases cell turnover. Essentially this means ditching your old, dead skin cells for shiny new ones. It is the best anti-aging product out there right now and it also treats acne. Yay for a two in one!

There are a few different ways to topically apply derivatives of Vitamin A. Let’s sum up the 3 major categories of retinoids here:

  1. Retin-A (aka tretinoin, the strongest, from the dermatologist)
  2. Diferin (aka adapalene, middle strength, both from the dermatologist and OTC)
  3. Retinol (lowest strength, OTC).

I personally use tretinoin, but that choice is of course up to you! If you don’t want to have to go to the dermatologist for your products, you can always go for something OTC. Just know OTC Vitamin A is always going to be lesser strength, so you won’t get the maximum effects.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C Serum has quickly become a staple in my skincare routine. It’s another key anti-aging ingredient that also helps even out, brighten, and smooth your complexion.

I am currently using the Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum and I’m obsessed. It just took my skin to another level when it comes to glowiness.

If you are doubting your need to apply moisturizer twice a day… think again. Moisture is critical for the health of your skin in every aspect. Preventing wrinkles and fine lines are a given, but don’t forget about how much healthier your skin looks when you give it some much needed hydration. If you aren’t currently using moisturizer in the AM & PM, you will notice a big difference in how alive your skin starts to look over time.

I use the IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Gel Moisturizer in the AM and the IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream Moisturizer in the PM. I can’t say enough good things about these two products. They are my lifeline!

While serums aren’t as crucial as the first 3 products, they can definitely add that extra oomph you’re looking for to give your skin an extra healthy glow. Look for serums that have ingredients with added skin benefits (like fruit extracts and vitamins) and you’ll be looking all glow’ed up and gorgeous in no time.

My new favorite is the She Knows Cosmetics 24k Elikr Primer/Serum. I love this because it doubles up as a Primer while giving you the benefits of a Serum! I’m obsessed with the glow this gives my skin.

PLUS they are amazing and are giving all of my readers/listeners/viewers 10% anything on their site with the code “ABBEY” (and an extra 5% off through July 5th- YAY!)

Are we ready to glow girls?! (hated myself for that but how could I not). What product is currently missing from your routine that you’re going to try out?
