Tomorrow is a VERY exciting day because I am finally releasing a much anticipated episode of The Ask Abbey Podcast where I interview the ultimate skincare queen of all time… my mom! Lucky for us, she has worked in the beauty industry for years, so she has tonsss of expertise on skincare.

I won’t spoil the episode for you, but dang it’s juicy. Make sure to subscribe to my podcast so you can listen in right when it’s posted!

As promised in tomorrow’s episode, I am giving you a list of Mom-Approved SPF brands to reference back to after you tune in to the episode! The amazing thing about all of these brands is that the SPF is super lightweight- so you can wear it underneath (or in place of) foundation!

FYI: Of course, just because a brand isn’t listed doesn’t mean that she doesn’t approve of them. These are just her absolute favorites!

To see my entire skincare collection, check out this YouTube video:

These first four brands are essentially tied. You can’t go wrong with any of them! It all depends on your unique skin preferences and the amount of money you’re looking to spend on SPF.

Colorescience- $39

This is her favorite. It’s perfect to apply under makeup because it’s nice and thin and has a slight peachy hue to it. Don’t be freaked out by that if you don’t have peachy undertones- the purpose is to dilute the white cast that the zinc in mineral sunscreens leave behind. You won’t look peachy at all once it’s blended in!

Heliocare- $26

She loves, loves, loves this one. It does have a bit of a whitecast to it (like many mineral sunscreens do). BUT it’s thin enough so that you can apply makeup on top of it without it looking like a goopy, white mess. They also have a chemical version that doesn’t leave a whitecast! The only downside is that it’s a UK brand so you can’t order directly from their site in the US. Purchasing beauty/skincare on Amazon can be iffy at times, so just make sure to really read through the reviews to make sure it’s legitimate!

Algenist- $28

This is another awesome option that you won’t be disappointed by. It has a lightweight consistency and a soft matte finish, so this would be perfect if you have oily skin or pores that clog easily!

Murad- $68

This is the most expensive option, but it’s a great one. Not only does it protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays, but it’s also supposed to protect our skin from environmental pollutants and blue light rays from technology!

Non-Tinted Option: Clinique- $28

This Clinique SPF isn’t tinted so it does leave a slight white cast on your face when you wear it on it’s own. BUT the white cast can easily be covered up with makeup because of how thin it is. Amazing!

Tinted Option: La Roche Posay- $34

My mom recommended this brand to me a couple years ago because you can get it at Target! Love that. You actually can wear it in place of CC Cream or foundation because it’s tinted! It can look streaky when applied with your hands, so make sure to apply it with a beauty sponge or foundation brush. If the shade of this tint doesn’t work with your skin tone, go for any of the other brands listed above!

Do we feel ready to block out damaging UVA and UVB rays now? And if you’re doubting how much you really need SPF… I’m going to stop you right there and give you one of my favorite quotes from my mom:

“A mineral sunscreen is your 401(k) for your face. Slowly but surely, over time the benefits will  far out weigh the hassle and price of putting it on.”
