My 11-Step Anti-Aging & Anti-Acne Skincare Routine (For Clear, Glowy, Wrinkle-Free Skin)

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water

I am always on the hunt for skincare products that are going to help me maintain youthful, glowy, clear skin for as long as possible in the most efficient way possible. I’m not interested in all the b.s. skincare trends that come and go these days. And I couldn’t even keep up with them if I wanted to! I’d have a 600 step skincare routine by now if I bought every new “must-have” product that comes out.

What I am interested in are tested products that WORK and are actually going to help me achieve my #skingoals.

I posted my skincare routine when I originally launched Ask Abbey back in February- so naturally, my regimen has already changed since then (lol, do we expect anything less?). You know it’s not my style to keep beauty secrets from you guys, so it’s about time I share an updated skincare routine so I can dish on what’s old and what’s new.

Keep in mind: This is my every day skincare routine. This doesn’t include any treatments or masks. Those products change for me depending on my skin needs at the time!

If you want my juiciest skincare tips, tune in to The Ask Abbey Podcast Episode #24 where I chat all things skincare with the ultimate expert herself… my Mom!

AM Skincare:

STEP 1: Aczone

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

I explain why I use Aczone and how I cleared my skin from hormonal acne in this video:

And I also discuss acne causes, prevention and both natural and topical remedies in The Ask Abbey Podcast Episode #8.

STEP 2: Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

This feels like heaven on my face first thing in the AM. I love it SO much. But if we are getting technical… (we are), Vitamin C Serum is most effective and potent when it comes in capsule form OR in an opaque bottle that has a pump. But that makes it spendy of course and I have to pick my beauty battles wisely- so Mad Hippie’s Vitamin C works great for me for now! As I get older, I’ll switch to the more potent stuff.

Benefits:

  • Brightening
  • Tightening
  • Smoothing

STEP 3: IT Cosmetics Confidence in an Eye Cream

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

This eye cream is sooo moisturizing and is actually kind of soothing to apply because it has that slightly cool feeling, ya know? I can tell that my years of being an idiot and skipping out on SPF have done some damage to the lines around my eyes, so this step is a must for me!

Benefits:

  • Hydrating
  • Smoothing
  • Refreshing
  • Color Correcting

STEP 4: IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Gel Lotion

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

This moisturizer is the BEST thing ever. Just wow I love. The consistency is heavenly- so silky smooth, and lightweight enough to wear all day while still giving you hydration. I currently use as an AM moisturizer, but if you have oily skin you’d love this for PM too! (PS: It also works great as a primer underneath makeup).

Benefits:

  • Anti-Aging
  • Hydrating
  • Gives your skin a radiant glow

STEP 5: Mineral Sunscreen

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

I used to think I only needed to apply sunscreen if I was going to be out in the sun for long amounts of time, but not anymore. I apply it daily to help protect against UVA rays- which are present even when you’re not directly under the sun. Like 911, the blue light from our devices causes our skin to age. NIGHTMARES! SPF is non-negotiable.

If you want a full list of mineral sunscreens that apply nicely underneath makeup, check out this blog post.

Benefits:

  • Protects against UVA & UVB rays
  • Protects against environmental stressors (i.e. pollutants, blue light)
  • Prevents visible signs of aging- “The Prevention”

PM Skincare

STEP 1: Micellar Water

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

I’ve never been a fan of makeup wipes. They run out so quickly (so it ends up not being very cheap) and they make me break out! So this is my form of makeup remover. I soak it up on a reusable makeup remover cloth and go to town to remove all traces of foundation and mascara.

STEP 2: Cleansing Oil

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

Cleansing oil is one of the newer loves of my life. I love this cleanser because it completely gets rid of any extra gunk that’s lingering on my face WHILE adding hydration. Amazing right?! Like if there’s a step in my skincare routine that can bring even more moisture to my skin, I’m all in.

Benefits:

If you don’t know about double cleansing yet… Don’t worry. I have a blog post on that to catch you up quickly.

STEP 3: Water Based Cleanser

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

This has been my go to cleanser for years… aka maybe the one good thing I did for my skin in college yay!!! It is packed with anti-oxidants, vitamins, and other ingredients to help protect and soothe skin that’s been beaten up by environmental stressors!

If you’re interested in a less expensive option, I also use the Mad Hippie Cleanser when I want to switch it up and I’ve been loving that as well!

Benefits:

  • Removes environmental impurities
  • Defends against free radicals
  • Refreshing
  • Soothing

STEP 4: Tretinoin

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

Tretinoin is THE holy grail when it comes to anti-aging skincare products. Anyone who really knows their sh*t when it comes to skincare will tell you this. lf you aren’t familiar, it’s similar to retinol but requires a prescription from the dermatologist (because it’s much more potent aka much better for anti-aging). Anddd as a bonus, Tretinoin is also an amazing acne prevention treatment! I use it for both acne and anti-aging and it has worked a small miracle on my skin I swear.

Benefits:

  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • Acne Preventing
  • Fights visible signs of aging- “The Cure”

STEP 5: IT Cosmetics Confidence in an Eye Cream

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

Same step as the AM! You could always use a different eye cream if you feel like being extra, but for once in my life I don’t because this one is just so good -I have no need!

STEP 6: IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream Hydrating Moisturizer

skincare routine, anti-aging, wrinkles, prevention, anti-acne, breakouts, clear skin, glowy skin, fine lines, large pores, discoloration, blackheads, treatment, aczone, vitamin c serum, mad hippie, glycolic acid, eye cream, IT confidence in an eye cream, moisturizer, IT confidence in a gel lotion, SPF, mineral SPF, sunscreen, mineral sunscreen, physical SPF, physical sunscreen, oil cleanser, precleanse, dermalogica, water cleanser, murad vitamin c cleanser, korean beauty, k beauty, mad hippie cleanser, tretinoin, retinol, tretinoid, IT cosmetics confidence in a cream, micellar water, hyperpigmentation, melasma

I use this as a PM moisturizer because it’s thicker than the Confidence in a Gel Lotion (and I also use it for both AM & PM in the winter). I can’t say enough good things about this moisturizer. It’s amazing. It just hydrates my skin perfectly without being heavy, oily, greasy, etc. And it also has anti-aging ingredients! Double win.

Benefits:

  • Hydrating
  • Smoothing
  • Reduces appearance of pores and discoloration
  • Anti-aging

Are we feeling ready to step up our skincare game? Because good skin is always in!
