What’s the Difference Between A Compound and Isolation Exercise?|How to Make Your Workouts the Most Efficient

As I progressed in my health and fitness journey and started to learn more about fitness, I just started to have even more questions. How many times a week should I be working out? How much time do I need to spend on cardio? How should I set up my weight lifting schedule throughout the week? Which exercises target which muscles? So one of the reasons I started Ask Abbey was to answer those types of questions for any of you who are looking for more clarity too! PS: To learn more about how to set up your weekly workout split, listen to this podcast episode, and to learn which exercises target which muscles, check out my YouTube Series dedicated to answering that question! ⬇ I was especially confused when I started lifting weights. There are so many different things to consider once you start incorporating weight training into your weekly split- like doing push vs. pull exercises (I give you the quick low down on that in this blog post), and how to set …

This Blended Pumpkin Spice Protein Mocha Will Be Your New Fall Obsession | Paleo, Vegan, DF, GF Recipes

We’ve all probably seen 75 million pumpkin spice recipes at this point. But are we over it? Not even close. I can’t help it okay!!! In my defense, I literally started making fall recipes in September so I’ve had this one brewing for a while. If you feel like you’re over the pumpkin spice craze already this season… you won’t be after you try this recipe. Because this isn’t your typical pumpkin spice latte or pumpkin spice baked good. It’s a creamy, sweet and caffeinated- aka the breakfast of my dreams. It’s a Blended Pumpkin Spice Mocha. And can even be a Blended Pumpkin Spice Protein Mocha if you want it to be. Hello!!! This is the perfect healthy recipe for breakfast, or even a little late afternoon pick me up snack. And of course per usual with my healthy recipes, I made it gluten free, refined sugar free, and dairy free. It’s also paleo and vegan so extra bonus points- yay! I would give you a step by step list of how to make …

Why Am I So Bloated? Here Are The Foods That Cause Bloating & How to Prevent It

Let’s chat bloating… But before this topic triggers anyone, let’s level set expectations first. Is Bloating Normal? Heck yes it is. Bloating (to a certain degree) is a completely natural bodily response to eating food. It’s really simple af. If you feel like your stomach is flatter in the AM than it is in the PM, that’s because it is. And that’s because you just spent the entire night sleeping without consuming any food or liquids. Aka you just spent the entire night fasting. Contrast that to before bedtime after you’ve been filling your stomach with food all day and… Yeah, we get it. But I just had to point that out for anyone who finds themselves feeling extra discouraged by that bedtime bloat! (PS: this especially applies to anyone who’s recently been introduced to a diet called food combining. If you want to know my thoughts on food combining, I discuss it in this podcast episode). The fact of the matter is that most women have to hit extremely low body fat percentages in …

I Detoxed From Coffee for 2 Weeks… Here’s What Happened

If you read my recent blog post on my favorite Healthy Matcha Latte Recipe, then you know I mentioned how I can’t wrap my head around the fact that there are people who can function during a long work day with zero caffeine in their system. Well… I’m pretty sure I jinxed myself, because just a couple weeks after that I was hit with a horrible stomach infection and had a forced coffee detox. Like we’re talking 15 days of literally NO caffeine of any sort people. 15!!! Keep in mind I had worked my way up to a solid 2-3 cups of coffee per day when this happened (sometimes 4- not proud). So as you can imagine, the detox experience wasn’t the most pleasant experience I’ve ever been through. Considering if you should do a coffee detox yourself? Here’s what you can expect: #1. Headaches on Headaches I essentially had a 72 hour headache. It wasn’t migraine status by any means, but it was still a nice, constant pounding. Sounds super fun, right? Thankfully …
