I Detoxed From Coffee for 2 Weeks… Here’s What Happened

If you read my recent blog post on my favorite Healthy Matcha Latte Recipe, then you know I mentioned how I can’t wrap my head around the fact that there are people who can function during a long work day with zero caffeine in their system. Well… I’m pretty sure I jinxed myself, because just a couple weeks after that I was hit with a horrible stomach infection and had a forced coffee detox. Like we’re talking 15 days of literally NO caffeine of any sort people. 15!!! Keep in mind I had worked my way up to a solid 2-3 cups of coffee per day when this happened (sometimes 4- not proud). So as you can imagine, the detox experience wasn’t the most pleasant experience I’ve ever been through. Considering if you should do a coffee detox yourself? Here’s what you can expect: #1. Headaches on Headaches I essentially had a 72 hour headache. It wasn’t migraine status by any means, but it was still a nice, constant pounding. Sounds super fun, right? Thankfully …

Gym Anxiety Got You Down? Here’s 7 Ways to Beat It and Finally Feel Comfortable in that Dreaded Weight Section

I used to be so intimidated by the gym… and TERRIFIED by the weights section. I thought I was never going to step foot in that area. Like ever. But of course, if you keep up with me on my other platforms (especially Instagram), you know that I love weight lifting now. So wondering how the heck I made that switch? Let’s chat. #1. Get Comfortable First If you’re a fitness newbie or just feeling out of shape from some time off, my first piece of advice is to jump back into fitness in an area that you feel most comfortable. For a lot of people, this means working out in your own home! When I first started working out, this is exactly what I did. And then continued to do for a couple years as I fell off and back on the fitness bandwagon (like over and over, lol). At that time, I knew NOTHING about fitness. So testing out workouts in the comfort of my parent’s basement was crucial for me in order …

Creamy Tomato Soup + Grilled Avocado Sandwich Recipe (Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Sugar Free, Paleo, Vegan)

I will never wish for colder weather, but I have to say… I am SO ready for cold weather food! Hearty and healthy soups, chili, and pastas are some of my favorite recipes to create. They’re just good for the soul kinda foods, ya know? I think we can all agree that there are few meals more comforting than the ultimate comfort classic that is grilled cheese and tomato soup. Thick buttery bread filled with gooey cheese dipped into creamy soup? Sign. me. up. But as much as I’d love to eat that meal 24/7, we all know it’s not the healthiest option. Store bought tomato soup can often be loaded up with hidden sugars (learn more about how to read ingredient labels in this blog post), and I like to keep the cheese and butter to a minimum in my diet. Don’t get it twisted though- I don’t believe in cutting food groups out entirely and I LOVE me some cheese, but if there’s a healthier alternative that I can easily swap in it’s …

You Are Going to Drool Over These Paleo, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Refined Sugar Free Banana Chocolate Chunk Muffins

One of my absolute favorite things to do is to create dessert recipes that are gluten free, dairy free, and refined sugar free. I’m always on the hunt to find the perfect healthier substitute for not so healthy ingredients! (Lucky for you, I have a list of my favorite sweet and savory healthy ingredient substitutes listed in this blog post! ) But this is also a tricky task for me because I almost never follow recipes to a T. I just like to play around and do my own thing in the kitchen! But unlike cooking, baking is actually a science and 1 wrong move can totally screw up a recipe. So I decided to not take such a gamble and to try to learn a little bit about the science behind baking. Turns out there are very specific ratios to follow depending on what type of dessert you’re making! Especially when it comes to flour vs. fats vs. sugar. However… if you know me, you know I like to keep sugar to a minimum …

My Top 6 Favorite Foundations of All Time

Foundation has become my latest makeup obsession ever since I started putting more effort into my skincare routine. Like if I’m putting all this work into getting glowy, youthful skin, then I need a foundation that’s going to work with me and not against me! Agreed? PS: I chat through my entire skincare routine in this YouTube video: That means I’m super picky about my foundations. Here are my requirements: Long-Wearing Lightweight Natural, Skin-Like Finish (think subtle radiance without getting oily) Comfortable Wear Medium to Full Coverage (depending on my mood you know) Of course, foundation is going to wear differently on everyone depending on skin texture, type, etc. For reference, I’d say I have normal/combination skin that can lean a little bit oily in the summer and a little bit dry in the winter (lol, so helpful Abbey!!!). Ok, let’s chat brands! Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Long Wear Foundation This is my favorite of all time. It’s so lightweight it literally feels like I’m wearing nothing! TBH I really can’t imagine anyone disliking …

My 11-Step Anti-Aging & Anti-Acne Skincare Routine (For Clear, Glowy, Wrinkle-Free Skin)

I am always on the hunt for skincare products that are going to help me maintain youthful, glowy, clear skin for as long as possible in the most efficient way possible. I’m not interested in all the b.s. skincare trends that come and go these days. And I couldn’t even keep up with them if I wanted to! I’d have a 600 step skincare routine by now if I bought every new “must-have” product that comes out. What I am interested in are tested products that WORK and are actually going to help me achieve my #skingoals. I posted my skincare routine when I originally launched Ask Abbey back in February- so naturally, my regimen has already changed since then (lol, do we expect anything less?). You know it’s not my style to keep beauty secrets from you guys, so it’s about time I share an updated skincare routine so I can dish on what’s old and what’s new. Keep in mind: This is my every day skincare routine. This doesn’t include any treatments or …

5 Types of Fitness Equipment That Will Take Your Workout To the Next Level

I will be the first person to admit that you don’t need much equipment in order to get an effective workout at the gym (or at home). You can easily get the job done with dumbbells, barbells and/or cables. BUT I also will be the first person to admit that I can get bored very quickly when it comes to workouts. No joke- I’ve never completed the same workout twice. I just can’t do it! I love variety because it challenges my mind and body in fun new ways every session. Incorporating different types of equipment is an amazing (and easy) way to completely switch up your workout. But deciding which equipment to buy can be confusing… there’s so much out there- how do you know what you need, right? So I’m sharing the top 5 pieces of workout equipment I’d recommend using either at the gym or at home in order to get the biggest bang for you buck in each and every workout session! #1: Resistance Bands (pssst: click on anything highlighted in …

Sweaty Workout Hair? 5 Ways To Deal (Without Having to Wash It)

Listen. If we want long, strong, beautiful hair, we have to accept the fact we can’t have clean hair every single day. Over-washing your hair is going to strip it of its natural oils and prevent it from growing long and strong. For me, it’s all about finding ways to make it look and feel the least greasy… ya know? A couple years ago I washed my hair every single day (which actually makes me panic a little thinking about it like yikes). I swore I was one of those people that just had oily hair and couldn’t afford to not wash it daily. SO untrue. Now I embrace the dirty hair life and I love it. It saves me time and energy and ALSO honestly just looks so much better than my hair does when it’s freshly clean. It has more volume, it holds a curl longer, it has great texture for ponytails and buns. Don’t knock it till you try it!!! Want a quick and easy tutorial on how I curl my hair? …

5 Ingredient Healthy Matcha Latte Recipe- Dairy Free, Sugar Free & Vegan Friendly!

As much as I love coffee, sometimes I just need a break. I’d love to say I always stick to 1-2 cups per day buuttt… I can get carried away and lose track quickly. Like one summer I worked myself up to two venti iced coffees from Starbucks a day (I’m shaking just thinking about this, HOW & WHY?). I didn’t realize I was drinking close to 6 cups of coffee a day- so when I did the math I had a serious oh sh*t moment. Then I decided it would be a lovely idea to cut coffee out of my life cold turkey. Easily in the top 20 for worst decisions of my life. My brain felt like 600 pounds of lead and I couldn’t feel my eyeballs. So… learn from me being an idiot and don’t detox from coffee this way people! Now I’m much more intentional about how much coffee I’m drinking (no more than 3 cups a day), and every so often I like to go on a little coffee hiatus …
