What’s the Difference Between A Compound and Isolation Exercise?|How to Make Your Workouts the Most Efficient

As I progressed in my health and fitness journey and started to learn more about fitness, I just started to have even more questions. How many times a week should I be working out? How much time do I need to spend on cardio? How should I set up my weight lifting schedule throughout the week? Which exercises target which muscles? So one of the reasons I started Ask Abbey was to answer those types of questions for any of you who are looking for more clarity too! PS: To learn more about how to set up your weekly workout split, listen to this podcast episode, and to learn which exercises target which muscles, check out my YouTube Series dedicated to answering that question! ⬇ I was especially confused when I started lifting weights. There are so many different things to consider once you start incorporating weight training into your weekly split- like doing push vs. pull exercises (I give you the quick low down on that in this blog post), and how to set …

What I Eat To Stay Lean & Healthy- Weekday Edition

Hello all you beautiful people. If you’re new here my name is Abbey and I. love. food. Like so much!!! Before I knew anything about health and fitness, I thought there was only one way to eat “healthy.” Vegetables, chicken, maybe some rice, and that’s about it. I spent one summer in college living off of that every single day for dinner. Sure, I lost weight, but I wasn’t enjoying my food. I think it’s SO important to eat foods that you genuinely love in order to sustain healthy eating for the long haul. If you’re forcing yourself to choke down beets and you hate beets… you’re going to crack quickly. I also think it’s very important to think about your goals when planning out your daily meals. The meals of people who are trying to lose weight vs. improve the composition of their body vs. gain weight and muscle are going to look different! It’s always good to keep that in mind, as well as thinking about your specific body type, the level of …

Is BulletProof Coffee the Key Weight Loss Trick You’ve Been Missing?

If you haven’t heard of bulletproof coffee by now… where tf have you been girl? Let me give you the quick low down: True “bulletproof coffee” is coffee that’s loaded up with grass-fed butter (1-2 tbsp) and MCT Oil (1 tbsp). So I’m sure you can see why this fad diet has blown up in the Keto community… it’s essentially just black coffee with fats added to it! As with every fad diet, there are tons of claimed benefits to bulletproof coffee. Here’s some of the benefits I’ve seen floating around: Enhances Weight Loss Increases Metabolism Improves Mental Clarity & Productivity Increases Energy Levels Controls Appetite Fixes Ur Whole Life Okay obviously kidding on the last one, but I’m sure you feel me on that. So many of these fad diets have a laundry list of apparent benefits that make you feel like you’re crazy to not be doing it. As with everything health & fitness related, I always like to take what I find with a grain of salt and try it out for …

4 Reasons Why Your Body Isn’t Transforming From Your At-Home Workouts

Even though I love a good gym session, there are plenty of days when I want to workout at home instead. It’s faster, more convenient, and just more comfortable (like you can find me in my ugliest clothes, watching The Hills & not worrying about anyone else the entire time). The one downside to at home workouts is that you typically don’t have access to the same equipment you can find in the gym. That is unless you have an insanely amazing at-home gym, and in that case I’m so jealous. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t get a killer workout in! It just means you have to get a little more creative. Here’s how to do it: 1. Invest in Fun Equipment Equipment isn’t cheap, but when you don’t have to pay for a gym membership, it’s totally worth it! Start off with dumbbells and resistance bands. Once you are ready to venture into other things & have saved up some more money, try various exercise balls like medicine balls, stability balls, and …

5 Easy Ways to Save Extra Calories

You guys know by now that I am not a fan of counting calories. This takes all the fun out of healthy eating / living a healthy lifestyle for me. But, if I can save some unnecessary calories here & there so that I feel better about eating an extra piece of pizza (or two) on the weekend with my friends, I’m all for it. I also know some of you are interested in losing weight or improving your body composition, so this is a special post for you! If you want to know more about changes you can make to help you reach those goals, listen to the Ask Abbey Podcast Epsiode #5 where I chat about why you’re not seeing your body transform. 1. When you’re cooking Ditch the oils when you can! I rarely use oils when I’m cooking food. 1 tbsp of Coconut Oil or Olive Oil is around 120 calories. And that’s if you just stick to exactly 1 tbsp, which is rare for me. I use zero calorie, nonstick …

How I Finally Improved My Body Composition (Before and After Photos)

First let me say: You are beautiful in whatever body makes you FEEL beautiful. Don’t let Instagram tell you how your body is supposed to look. The only way it’s supposed to look is exactly how you want it to. Instagram has a funny way of making you feel like everything about your body is wrong. You need to be thin, but not too thin because that’s gross. You need to have muscle definition, but not a super ripped 8 pack because that’s too masculine. You need to have a booty, but that just right booty where you can tell it’s not from fat- because ew & you can tell it’s not from lifting weights too much- because ew. All I have to say to all of that is: alksdjffakldsjfaklsdjfalksdjflkasdf. Stop letting other people tell you how you need to look. YOU tell yourself how you need to look to make yourself FEEL beautiful. And that’s it. Second let me say: Transformations look different for EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. Everyone has different genetics, hormones, metabolisms, abilities …
